First Year Students

Volunteer Editors

First-year students in the Faculty of Law at Queen's University have the opportunity to get involved with the Queen’s Law Journal through the Volunteer Program.

Each year, the QLJ takes on approximately 40 law students to participate in various stages of the editing process. Volunteer Editors gain experience checking citations, proofreading articles, and conducting internal reviews. These skills are invaluable for both law school and future legal practice.

Applications

The call for Volunteer Editor applications will be made to all first-year Queen’s Law students at the beginning of September. Applicants will be asked to submit a CV and cover letter, and to complete an editing assignment. Volunteer Editors are selected on the basis of the successful completion of the editing assignment and related prior experience.

Editorial Board

The Queen’s Law Journal is managed and edited by a board of student editors with the support of the Faculty Advisors.

The Editorial Board consists of the following editorial roles:

  • Managing Editor of Productions
  • Managing Editor of Volunteers
  • Managing Editor of Business & Marketing
  • Managing Editors of the Style Guide

Applications

Editorial Board selection takes place in the Winter semester of each year. The process includes the submission of a cover letter, a CV, and an editing or submissions assignment. Candidates are then selected for interviews by the Co-Editors-in-Chief and the Faculty Advisors.

Members of the Editorial Board are selected based primarily on the following criteria: editing ability, writing ability, and relevant experience.
